So, for the past month I have been working in a big, giant office tower for a big, giant insurance company (a.k.a. the man) and have finally entered what everybody calls the "real world." I love it and it is really fulfilling to think at work and to be able to finally be doing what I have been planning to do for SOOOO long. What I have realized so far, is that no matter what you do, or where you are, it is the real world. Now, not when we finish school or get that promotion or get that powerful job, is when we should be striving to make a difference. Just because you pick up trash, take food orders, or take years and years of classes because you love learning and dont' negotiate giant business deals or run a company, what you do everyday matters. As people, we have a chance everyday to better ourselves and to help others. Whether it is holding the door open for someone with their hands full, helping a girl pick up the shattered pieces of her cell phone, telling someone that that particular shade of pink looks great on them, teaching a single child to read, or whether it is going to Africa provide medical care for a dying village, we have opportunities to change the world everyday. Power and ability come from within, not from a job title or a degree. What does change is that, as we progress in our careers and educations and achieve certain external levels of success, our responsibility to share and help others increases, but not our ability. The ability is there all along. The real world is the world we live in here, now, today.
What a wonderful and powerful message. It is so good to be able to dig into your mind again. I've missed you!

Nice to see something new!
My sister just posted a blog about not having started life yet. I think I'll have to pass along your words of wisdom: "What I have realized so far, is that no matter what you do, or where you are, it is the real world."
